Word-hoard

Bee Beard

I looked to the world
Through Eyes of Fear
It looked at me
the same way

I begged and I borrowed
shuffled and scorned
till the true way forward
came clear

I looked to the mirror
so clear and so bright
I looked at my face
so bare

A vision came to me
clear as the glass
brightly it beckoned
me in

A living swarm right
there on my face
A hundred small lives
on my chin

--chorus---
Look on me now with terror and fear
look unto me with pride
so many happy songs
we do sing
So many now
on my side
------

Emboldened I ventured
out in the world
I held my head
straight and high

The people before me
backed slowly away
averted their bodies
and eyes

Each one and all
loathed to come near
all that is
except one

A vision of beauty
greeted me now
a woman so fine
I would win

This beauty before me
dazzled my eyes
a beard of bees
on her chin

Well and Tree

At the heart of the world stands a tree so tall
Underneath it flows a stream
And the flow of the stream feeds the roots so deep
Where they run from no one knows

Pangur Bán

Like the monk who wrote
a poem about his cat
in the margins of his 8th century psalter
I want to steal some time
away from the people who
measure and diminish and watch

Like a crow who laughs
as the scarecrow digs
his feet into the earth
I want to take my fill
in the midst of the twisted
wardens and warders and cops.

So like that Irish poet
and like that crow so black
I laugh at you my jailers
on you I turn my back
la la la la la la la

Downwinders

You're burning in hell and theres no way to pray
the endless bleeding and burning away
You stood in the road in the dust and the heat
and watched them lie and vote with their feet
the rocks and the wind sung you their grief
you got nothing for them to give them relief
you stand by the water black mist in the air
thinking of where this is going and where
the end to the alien blight on the land
will stop flowing from the newborns hand

digging down down down down
digging down down but they don't love the ground

I went to the river to see whats to see
the crabs and the fishes were glaring at me
I went to the mountain and looked all around
I sit and watch the rising sun going

down down down down
digging down down but they don't love the ground

Walking Curious

You looked that question
up and down
threw out your book of rules
embraced
an obsolete code

Walking curious through your house in afternoon
your garden in the morning
posed a question
you answer too soon

A cruel line of reasoning
demarcations
lines drawn between us
oh but say it's not in concrete
not in stone

Walking curious....

I can't do a thing
for you now
where you've gone
shattered light
reflecting shards
incandescence

Walking curious....
